Itinerary

Day 1

Arrive in Cusco / PM City tour.

Arrive in Cusco / PM City tour. Upon arrival at the Cusco airport you will be met and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the morning will be at your leisure. In the afternoon enjoy a half day tour of Cusco, visiting the Cathedral on the Plaza de Armas and the legendary Qoricancha, the most important religious center in the Inca time, a temple devoted to worshiping the Sun deity. Your tour includes also the visit to some nearby archaeological sites such as the impressive fortress of Sacsayhuaman; the religious site of Q’enqo; the ancient site of Puca Pucara and finally the water temple of Tambomachay.

Day 2

Sacred Valley of the Incas – Aguas Calientes.

Sacred Valley of the Incas – Aguas Calientes. Today you will enjoy a full day tour to explore the Sacred Valley of the Incas. This fertile river valley was home to many important sites for the Incas, both strategic and religious. The first stop is the village of Pisaq, with its famous market. In the market comes alive with locals from nearby hillside villages in traditional dress selling local fruit and vegetables as well as handicrafts. There is free time to wander the colorful market stalls before to visit the spectacular Pisaq Ruins – a hilltop Inca citadel and fortress with impressive agricultural terracing. Afterwards, you will enjoy a delicious buffet lunch in a local restaurant in Urubamba. Following, you will visit Ollantaytambo, an Incan military, religious, administrative and agricultural center located at the top of a mountain. Unlike other small towns, this one has maintained its original Incan design, featuring stone buildings and narrow streets. In the late afternoon, you will board the train to Aguas Calientes. Upon arrival in the train station, you will be met and transferred to your hotel.

Day 3

Machupicchu – Cusco.

Machupicchu – Cusco. This day early in the morning you will ride up a 30-minute bus to the secluded citadel, which is surrounded by a cloud forest inhabited by orchids and hummingbirds. In Machupicchu you will enjoy a guided visit to the greatest ruin in the world, the lost city of Machu Picchu. This is one of the architectural and engineering marvels of the ancient world, in a mountain setting of staggering immensity. The Spaniards never found it; the Incas left no records about it, so Machu Picchu remains a great enigma, a city lost for centuries in the cloud forest. Afterwards the guided tour, you will have free time for the many spectacular walks including following the path to the Inca bridge, the Sun Gate or even climb to Huaynapicchu mountain. In the late afternoon, you will board the train to return to Cusco. Upon arrival in the train station, you will be met and transferred to your hotel.

Day 5

Cusco – Cloud Forest (Manu National Park)

Cusco – Cloud Forest (Manu National Park) We will pick you up around 5:00 am from your hotels in Cusco in our private transport. The first part of our excursion will take us through the majestic Andean mountains and afterwards we will briefly visit the town of Huancarani which contains the funeral towers of Ninamarca, and the cemetery of the Lupacas, part of the precious Pre–Inca culture. We will then travel Paucartambo, a small traditional town, which is known for its folklore. At midday we will arrive at the entrance of Manu National Park and enter into one of the most protected natural areas in the whole of South America. We will continue in our transport down a small road and on through the thick fog from which this section of the forest takes it name in Quechua. Eventually we will come to the home of the exotic Peruvian national bird, the “Cock of the Rocks” you will be amazed by the spectacle, complete with an impressive array of sounds that can only be found in the jungle. On our first night, we will stay at San Pedro Lodge

Day 6

Cloud Forest – Atalaya – Erika Lodge.

Cloud Forest – Atalaya – Erika Lodge. Very early we will go in search of the Cock of the Rock, the National bird of Peru, which has a very unique courtship dance. After breakfast we will continue to the small town of Pillcopata*, then to the Port of Atalaya, which is located on the shores of the Madre de Dios River (700 m.s.n.m). Here we will take a boat to our Private Reserve of “Erika” *. From the boat we will be able to see an enormous diversity of bird species such as Herons, vultures and cormorants etc. We will walk along the interesting trails that are in the transition zone between high and low jungle and your guide will point out and explain the interesting diversity of wild life that surrounds you. We will have the chance for a night walk to catch a glimpse of insects and amphibians. We overnight in our Erika Lodge. * 1 Free Option – Rafting: In Pillcopata you will have 90 minutes of rafting (grade I & II) on the Koñeq and/or Madre de Dios Rivers. You can enjoy the beautiful landscape and have a swim in the refreshing wáter.

Day 7

Erika Lodge.

Erika Lodge. During the morning walk, the guide will point out and explain the interesting variety of wildlife around you. We board our boat to cross the river and follow a trail for 30 minutes and observe the interesting flora such as the sensitive plants, heliconias, fruit, etc. We walk until we reach Machuwasi Lake where we paddle rafts to observe the birds like the primitive Hoatzin, alligators, monkeys and capybaras with luck. We will have a night walk around our lodge to catch a glimpse of a variety of insects and amphibians. * 2 Free Option – Canopy Zip Line: In Erika our guests can glide from tree to tree and from platform to platform with a harness on a horizontal cable rail system at high speeds above the trees in the incredible amazon jungle. You then rappel from a height of 15m back to the jungle floor.

Day 8

Erika Lodge – Atalaya – Cusco.

Erika Lodge – Atalaya – Cusco. Very early we board our boat and make our way to Collpa, a clay wall by the river where a variety of parrots such as the blue headed parrot, the White eyed parakeet, possibly the Maracana Macaw and others come every morning to substitute their diet with minerals and salts. After this activity we return to Erika for breakfast. After breakfast we pack up and take our boat back to Atalaya Port where our vehicle will be waiting to take us back to Cusco. We have lunch in route to Cusco and arrive early evening.

Day 9

Cusco – Lima.

You will be collected from your hotel and transferred to the airport for your flight to Lima or your next destination.
